What was rumor earlier on Friday has taken a sharper focus as happy hour draws closer on the East Coast: Deadline reports that CAA is in negotiations with financier QED International to pay Arnold Schwarzenegger “top dollar” to star in Cry Macho. Translation: He’s back.
If closed, the deal would pay Schwarzenegger “$10 million upfront and 25 percent first dollar gross on the back end,” numbers similar to what the former Governator pulled down in his heyday.
Based on the N. Richard Nash novel of the same name — Nash wrote the script for Macho before passing away in 2000 — Cry Macho will focus on an old horse breeder (the role Schwarzengger would play) hired to kidnap a rich man’s son from the man’s ex-wife in Mexico. Deadline’s Nikki Finke writes that the Brad Furman-directed film — which 81-year-old Godfather producer Al Ruddy brought to CAA — is being described as “The Ransom Of Red Chief meets Ruthless People with the heartbreak of Paper Moon,” which sounds kinda totally awesome. Having enjoyed the work of Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess, and An Education director Lone Scherfig, I’d been optimistically looking forward to the lit adaptation One Day. (Just look at this sexy, lip-parting smooch — best movie poster kiss ever?) But as the first trailer for the decades-spanning romance reveals, there’s another co-star angling for attention in the August release: Anne Hathaway’s distracting British accent. Watch the trailer and see what I mean after the jump.
The film follows graduating college classmates Emma (Hathaway) and Dexter (Sturgess) over the course of two decades. They meet, one day a year, as their lives go in different directions: She goes from dead end waitress to successful novelist, he becomes a TV presenter and crashes and burns. Along the way, they (of course!) fall in love.
The trailer reveals as much, following the trajectory of their lives in standard romantic movie trailer fashion. Will they end up together? You know they will. Will it take false starts and mess-ups and arguments and failed relationships and career ups and downs for these crazy kids to realize they belong together? I think you know the answer to that question, too.
So what’s left to discover here? About a dozen awful to hilarious to cute period hairdos, costumes, and details — Scherfig enlisted An Education designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux to nail the specific ’80s, ’90s and ‘00 outfits and hired production designer Mark Tildesley, who brought retro England to life in Pirate Radio and 24 Hour Party People. With Terrence Malick’s films it’s always hard to know exactly what you’re looking forward to, except the fact that he’s made a film, one with a real-world release date. He’s made a film with Sean Penn and Brad Pitt, shot by The New World cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, and scored by Alexandre Desplat. He’s made a film with a visual effects team of 85 people. He’s made a film!
Bridesmaids, May 13
Paul Feig probably generates more excitement when it’s announced he’s directing a television show, but Bridesmaids is on my list for several reasons, and he’s definitely one of them. I’m wary and hopeful about what this Apatow-produced comedy will do for both less testosterone-driven mainstream comedy and the beloved Kristen Wiig’s career. Plus I once wore a bridesmaid’s dress that’s the exact shade of Pepto pink featured in the film.

Robert, Kristen & Taylor: Entertainment Weekly Cover Stars (Gossip Girls)
They?re three of the biggest stars in Tinseltown, and Robert Pattinson,
Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner all have their mugs on the cover of the
new issue of Entertainment Weekly.
Rob and Kristen share the front of one version of the magazine, and in the
accompanying interview, Miss Stewart talks about the frustration over not
being able to be more overt with ?Breaking Dawn?s? imagery.
?In some ways it was disappointing not to be able to really go there. We
imagined it every single day. It?s funny because when [the PG-13 issue] comes
up, everybody thinks it?s all about the sex. The birth is really effective,
and I?ve heard it really hits you in the face. But what it could have been? It
could have been shocking and grotesque, because that?s how it was written in
the book. I would have loved to have been puking up blood.?
Meanwhile, Rob?s all about the love scenes. ?I like the honeymoon scenes
because it?s such a massive turnaround in Edward and Bella?s relationship.?
Kristen also noted that she really enjoyed the wedding motif. ?I never would
have thought I?d be affected in this way, but ...
